Tinnitus Therapy
Tinnitus is a common hearing issue which causes a constant ringing, humming, or buzzing in the ears. More than 25% of the population has experienced tinnitus at some point in their lives and between 10-20% suffer from chronic tinnitus. Unfortunately, despite its prevalence, the root cause of tinnitus is not well understood. If you are struggling with tinnitus it is always best to talk with your family physician or an Ear, Nose and Throat doctor (an otolaryngologist). If medical solutions are not recommended then many newer hearing instruments have built in tinnitus therapies that our professionals are trained to use.
What is tinnitus?
Tinnitus is characterized by the perception of a constant sound that is not due to an external source. Produced by neurological activity, the sound is not a hallucination and the volume can vary from mild to loud. Tinnitus can be caused by a variety of factors, including age, extended exposure to loud noises, head injury, and medication side-effects. While most episodes of tinnitus come and go, some patients experience the sound constantly.
